As reported in The Herald‘s “entertainment section”, Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab have been ordered to pay $12 000 compensation to three plaintiffs who sought damages after Lorde cancelled dates in Israel. The sum includes a component for causing ‘moral and emotional injury’ to the three would be concert goers.
Of course, the Israeli courts have no power of enforcement, and the whole affair’s arguably just a piece of bullshit propaganda designed to intimidate people who might be thinking to speak out against policies and actions of the Israeli state.
In response, Justine and Nadia have launched an appeal to raise monies to help provide mental health support services for “Palestinians in Gaza, where over half of children suffer PTSD as a result of Israeli military attacks”.

I can’t see the Jewish people living in Israel going anywhere else any time soon. For that to happen they would have to be utterly defeated in a war and leave as refugees because they feared for their existence. I don’t see that happening within the next 50 to 100 years, almost certainly for much longer.
Of course Israel can change. It might fully adopt a two state solution. It might become a unitary state incorporating all of the west bank, giving all the residents full rights. It might not identify as an explicitly Jewish state, but rather as a state with a large jewish population.
For any of these things to happen, Israel would need to feel much more secure than now, not just through an abundance of military power, but a real sense that all the people in the “new” state fully accepted each other.
The EU won’t remove Israel’s associate member status. That would look explicitly anti-Semitic. Germany in particular could never tolerate being labelled as such.

This is the sub heading of a Guardian article entitled “Birth of a Myth”. If you read the article you will see that it refers to a piece fake news (“chain email”) that has been circulating on Face Book. Today I received a copy of this “fake news” on my FB page that had been circulated by a good friend of mine who holds diametrically opposed views to my own on the Palestine/Israeli issue. I asked him for verification of the “article” but so far none has been forthcoming. If he has read the Guardian article I have posted to him he might send an apology for spreading such vile propaganda but I doubt it because he will prefer to believe the lie.
I think I might have got the same facebook message (English education curriculum) about a week back. When I questioned why the person was forwarding “bullshit anti-Islamic propaganda”, the response was that their focus was meant to be on holocaust denial.
It’s kind of almost smart two tier propaganda that’s snagging a fair few otherwise reasonable people who aren’t looking beyond the headline.
It certainly seems to be gaining much more penetration than any of those (mostly) Greek and Russian based US election memes that I never got any of…and that never seemed to reach anyone anyone else had met or heard of.
It’s a device to prevent criticism of Zionist government from Jews and Palerstinians around the world – because it effectively would ban them from visiting if they do.
Already Jewish critics get held on arrival in Israel and get questioned about who they intend to see and where they intend to go.
