As reported in The Herald‘s “entertainment section”, Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab have been ordered to pay $12 000 compensation to three plaintiffs who sought damages after Lorde cancelled dates in Israel. The sum includes a component for causing ‘moral and emotional injury’ to the three would be concert goers.

Of course, the Israeli courts have no power of enforcement, and the whole affair’s arguably just a piece of bullshit propaganda designed to intimidate people who might be thinking to speak out against policies and actions of the Israeli state.

In response, Justine and Nadia have launched an appeal to raise monies to help provide mental health support services for “Palestinians in Gaza, where over half of children suffer PTSD as a result of Israeli military attacks”.

Here’s a link to their “Givealittle” page. And given the illustrated potential power of sending a letter to a musician, here’s a further link to upcoming concerts by international acts in Israel.

  1. Good Lorde !!!,- whatever will the jackasses come up with next to look ridiculous ???

This latest one from Israel takes the cake, – ‘moral and emotional injury’ , – my left bleedin cheek !!!

We need to send the Bulldogs over there- or maybe just give em a CD or summit.

Palestinians in Gaza suffer because of Hamas. Hamas will never agree to anything other than the total demise of Israel.

Israel is not going anyway soon, its time the likes of Hamas are thrown out then the honest dialogue can then take place and the people in Gaza can live in peace with their neighbours.

The likes of Sachs only encourage Hamas and others.

    • Morrissey 2.1

You’re clueless, Chuck. You shouldn’t comment until you have done at least a modicum of serious reading.

    • Dukeofurl 2.2

      Israel isn’t going away soon?
The Soviet Union said that too. Before that the British empire, remember that.
Israel seems to forget that they are an eu associate member, that could change too

      • Wayne 2.2.1

        Dukeofurl

The Soviet Union disappeared, it’s constituent components did not. Neither did the people.

I can’t see the Jewish people living in Israel going anywhere else any time soon. For that to happen they would have to be utterly defeated in a war and leave as refugees because they feared for their existence. I don’t see that happening within the next 50 to 100 years, almost certainly for much longer.

Of course Israel can change. It might fully adopt a two state solution. It might become a unitary state incorporating all of the west bank, giving all the residents full rights. It might not identify as an explicitly Jewish state, but rather as a state with a large jewish population.

For any of these things to happen, Israel would need to feel much more secure than now, not just through an abundance of military power, but a real sense that all the people in the “new” state fully accepted each other.

The EU won’t remove Israel’s associate member status. That would look explicitly anti-Semitic. Germany in particular could never tolerate being labelled as such.

    • Bill 2.3

Hey Chuck, when was Hamas elected in Gaza? What was the dynamic between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza and the West Back before that date?

What do the Israeli attempts to bully and silence those (including Jews)from other countries who are calling for economic pressure to be applied to Israel for their relentless bullshit have to do with the government in Gaza?

And finally. (just because it’s relevant)

      • Chuck 2.3.1

Until the Palestinians kick Hamas out of Gaza (and the West Bank) Hamas will never cease its hostilities toward Israel.

This is the roadblock to peace. Palestinian internal reconciliation must occur first with the result that Hamas (or any other terrorist type organisation) is no longer in any position of power.

Sure there are hardliners on the Israeli side as well, but they will lose much of their influence once the leaders of a united Gaza / West Bank genuinely sit down to reach an agreement with Israel.

    • Draco T Bastard 2.4

Palestinians in Gaza suffer because of Hamas.

      No.

They suffer because of the invasion of Israel onto Palestine back in 1947. Of course, the Jews had been carrying out terrorist attacks in Palestine for decades before then.

The creation of Israel on Palestinian land against the wishes of the Palestinians is the greatest war crime ever.

      • Bill 2.4.1

Of course, the Jews had been…

It would be really useful if you differentiated between Zionists and Jews when commenting on this stuff. Just saying.

      • Tuppence Shrewsbury 2.4.2

Typical fuckwit statement grandiose statement from the cellar dwelling little prick Draco. Completely ignoring the actual greatest war crime that happened right before the creation of the Israeli state and claiming the UN mandated creation of a nation state to be a war crime. What a dick.

        • mary_a 2.4.2.1

          Tuppence Shrewsbury … (2.4.2)

Most of us are indeed aware of the horror perpetrated against non Aryans in Europe by the vile Nazi regime, prior to the settlement of Israel.

However the greedy, hateful Zionist state has been committing atrocities against humanity (Palestinians) for over 70 years now … I repeat 70 long, bloody (literally) years, putting itself on a parallel with the murderous activities of the National Socialists during that awful, dark period in Europe’s history.

The Zionist state as it stands at present IMO equates to a nation of war criminals!

    • reason 2.5

Your being misleading Chuck …. the problem is the ethnic cleansing and theft / destruction of Palestinian homes and livelihoods that went with it.

Get rid of Hamas and that great injustice and ongoing land illegal land dispossession continues ….

It is the ruling party of Israel which is ideology wedded to the complete destruction of Palestine , or their hopes of Nationhood …. and they are actually carrying it out….

….Aided by the u.s.a …. whose political system has been manipulated by Israel .

It did not matter whether Trump or Hillary won their recent election …. Israel always wins

“no lobby has managed to divert U.S. foreign policy as far from what the American national interest would otherwise suggest, while simultaneously
convincing Americans that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially identical.
In the pages that follow, we describe how the Israel lobby has accomplished this
feat and how its activities have shaped America’s actions in this critical region.” http://mearsheimer.uchicago.edu/pdfs/IsraelLobby.pdf

As for chucks outright Israel propaganda From about 13mins 40secs … it gets exposed.

    • “Hamas will never agree to anything other than the total demise of Israel. “

‘Chuck’, I don’t think Hamas is required to destroy Israel. The stupidity of Israel’s Establishment will suffice. They are their own worst enemy.

The likes of Sachs only encourage Hamas and others.

Yeah, why should free speech be permitted if it “encourages” people to… speak out?!

Jeez, next thing you know and people will start thinking for themselves! Where will it all end, I ask you?!?!

  3. Jenny 3

With the Israeli state’s penchant for illegally abducting people their courts have condemned, from territories and countries where Israle has no legal jurisdiction, or extradition treaties.

Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab just might be in real danger.

To prevent this possibility, our government need to officially warn the Israeli government against taking any such action against any New Zealand citizen or resident.

  4. Chris 4

Their fuck-you attitude towards the Israeli government is fantastic.

  5. peterlepaysan 5

Israel finally admits it has joined the ranks of China, Russia and other assorted dictatorial regimes that do not tolerate dissent to be expressed.

China certainly is very active in suppressing ctitical comments outside China.
Is this a sign of another “evil axis”? Nah, everyone else is too gutless to call Israel out.
China and Israel both enjoy persecuting Muslims

Meanwhile Palestinians endure a rerun of various pogroms etc and yes the holocaust.
Israel was founded because of the activities of terrorist gangs, Try Stern for starters.

Israel, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and a truck load of other “nation” came about through the collapse of the European and Turkish empires after two world wars.

In a sense they are artificial creations (as are all nations, politically speaking).

    Israelis are so hypocritical.

Jews claim Israel because they are God’s chosen race. They are not accountable to mere humans.

    • RedLogix 5.1

Jews claim Israel because they are God’s chosen race.

The problem is that they are not sure why.

      • Bill 5.1.1

Jews don’t claim to be a chosen race. The people chosen by god at the foot of Mount Sinai weren’t Jews. They became Jews at the moment they accepted the Torah (in some place that wasn’t within present day Israel) – as does anyone else of whatever ethnicity or culture who does likewise.

    • Bill 5.2

Jews claim Israel because they are God’s chosen race. They are not accountable to mere humans.

It would be far more accurate to state that Zionists claim Israel as a Jewish homeland, not Jews. There are plenty of Jews who point to the anti-Semitic and non-Judaic basis of Zionism.

    • reason 5.3

“Jews claim Israel because they are God’s chosen race. They are not accountable to mere humans.” ….. anti-Semite territory with that broad brush.

The truth is, it is extreme zionisim that is the problem …. and they use the propaganda that Palestinians are animals / terrorists.

Many jews are against the actions of the extreme and bad faith zionists … so it’s not a problem of “the jews”

I almost fell over with laughter when I saw Israel was attempting to pull off this kind of garbage. The apartheid regime in South Africa tried exactly the same kind of quasi-judicial nonsense in its dying years and look where it ended up – on the scrapheap of history.

Please look at 2004 mossad agents charged in NZ for passport fraud, ugly.

    • Exkiwiforces 7.1

You forgot and the hit job that Mossad in UEA in 2009, which almost seen the NZ, Aus, UK and Canadian Forces kicked out of UAE at the time.

You’re should’ve seen the shit storm at the major Joint base and the especially when the embassies were dragged through the rigger, but the biggest kick in guts or the biggest giggle from my POV was when I told the our CI guys at the time that there was a Mossad hit in town as the No3 man from Hamas was knocked off. “They said how do you know”? Well it came over radio this morning and “how do know it was Mossad”? Well you would go after the No3 from Hamas in a country full of Commonwealth Nations Defence Forces atm and which country has a habit of stealing passports from their friendly mates. You should’ve seen the look on these CI muppets it was priceless apart from a guy who was giggling at the back saying “we’ve just got check mated by a Rockape who’s knows what the f**k going on”. But a few doors open for me after that and that’s another story for another time probably not on this forum. Wink Wink….

Rumours of the demise of Holocaust education have been greatly exaggerated, but that doesn’t stop the chain emails flying.
    Tue 21 Aug 2007 13.00 BST

This is the sub heading of a Guardian article entitled “Birth of a Myth”. If you read the article you will see that it refers to a piece fake news (“chain email”) that has been circulating on Face Book. Today I received a copy of this “fake news” on my FB page that had been circulated by a good friend of mine who holds diametrically opposed views to my own on the Palestine/Israeli issue. I asked him for verification of the “article” but so far none has been forthcoming. If he has read the Guardian article I have posted to him he might send an apology for spreading such vile propaganda but I doubt it because he will prefer to believe the lie.

    • Bill 8.1

I think I might have got the same facebook message (English education curriculum) about a week back. When I questioned why the person was forwarding “bullshit anti-Islamic propaganda”, the response was that their focus was meant to be on holocaust denial.

It’s kind of almost smart two tier propaganda that’s snagging a fair few otherwise reasonable people who aren’t looking beyond the headline.

It certainly seems to be gaining much more penetration than any of those (mostly) Greek and Russian based US election memes that I never got any of…and that never seemed to reach anyone anyone else had met or heard of.

  9. SPC 9

It’s a device to prevent criticism of Zionist government from Jews and Palerstinians around the world – because it effectively would ban them from visiting if they do.

Already Jewish critics get held on arrival in Israel and get questioned about who they intend to see and where they intend to go.

  10. SaveNZ 10

I hope Mike Treen and others sue the Israeli government in a civil suit for kidnapping, breaking bones and tasering and stealing belongings on his recent trip in international waters.

Criminal courts like The Hague, might also be a good place to look at Israeli crimes.

Weird, $12k for some Israeli snowflakes missing out on concert so hopefully millions in damages for the above.

  11. georgecom 11

    moral and emotional injury. groan

the anguish, the distress. poor girls.

obviously emotionally strong enough though to take a court case.

I wonder when their level of “moral and emotional injury” would be if faced with the realities of their forefathers who fought in various regional wars or lived through ww2.

If you play with fire you get burnt, we need to watch out for these people (Saudi) we can see what they are prepared to do and what lengths they will go to its 2018 so much for change. We need to start investing in alternate sources of fuel to run our cars so we don’t have to depend on these people for anything.
